These tiny yet remarkable pieces are a replacement to wood logs and create a generously modern appeal that is suitable for both indoor and outdoor fire pits. They are beautiful, refined and available in reflective colors, to various shapes and sizes. Apart from being classic and timeless, it is one of the most environmentally friendly fire media options to have for your fire feature. Fire glass not only enhances the appearance of your fire feature but it also performs an important role. When compared to wood burning logs, they are resistant to high temperatures and will not burn. They do not produce any smoke or ash, so there is no need to worry about a mess. Yet the result is an impressive, fuller flames. But they can collect dust sometimes which needs cleaning from time to time. Fortunately, it is the only minimal maintenance required and it is hassle free compared to other options. The process for cleaning fire glass is simple and it allows you to keep your glass looking new for many years.

How to Clean Fire Glass:

Follow the simple steps mentioned below to make the fire glass stones new like before. You will need a few supplies for cleaning purposes like hand gloves, bucket, wire mesh strainer, towel or newspaper sheet, tape, water, soap or household vinegar, plastic scooper and a trash bag.

Step 1: Prepare your fire pit.

Preparing your fire pit means to stop the gas supply to the pit and let the fire glass cool down. Make sure you need plenty of time for the fire glass to cool down, so plan it well in advance. Don’t use the fire pit at least for a night if you have used it recently.

Step 2: Safety measures

Safety is a very essential part! It is important to wear protective hand gloves before handling the fire glass. Irrespective of whether you have beads or broken styled pieces, gloves will help to minimize skin contact with sharp edges and keep your hands from getting cut.

Step 3: Remove the existing fire glass from the fire feature

Carefully scoop out the cooled fire glass stones and transfer it to a bucket. In case you don’t have a bucket handy, you can use an old colander or a sieve for cleaning. You can also clean the fire glass in small batches if you have it in huge quantities. Cleaning the fire glass in small batches can help you to get rid of the unwanted dirt and dust particles which are difficult to reach.

Step 4: Wash the fire glass stones

Simple method of cleaning the fire glass is with soap water. Fill the bucket with warm water and add soap and lather it. Stir the soap water and fire glass stones thoroughly, you can use a scrubber to scrub the fire glass. An unused toilet brush also works great for cleaning purposes. The soap water may leave a white residue or film, so it is important to rinse the ire glass thoroughly with clean water.

Another way of cleaning the fire glass stones is by using household vinegar and water solution. Mix water and vinegar in 1:1 ratio. Soak the fire glass in the solution and rinse it with clean water. Note that it is important to rinse the fire glass thoroughly with clean water if you’re using an alcohol or chemical-based cleaner to ensure all flammable substances have been washed away.

Step 5: Dry the fire glass

After rinsing the fire glass, drain the water and lay down towels or newspaper and spread the clean and shiny fire glass evenly on it. Allow the glass to sit until completely dry, make sure there is no moisture left. Any amount of water or moisture left on the fire glass stones can result in popping which is due to the water boiling on the fire glass.

Step 6: Return the fire glass to the fire feature

Clean the fire pit or the burner pan and properly dispose of any small, fragmented pieces leftover. Make sure you conceal the broken pieces securely in a box or wrap up and taped in a newspaper sheet to help Recycling and Reclamation Sorters recycle the material. Now you can add the fire glass back in your fire pit and enjoy the warmth of the fire until it needs to be cleaned next time.
